Getting expert appraisals is the most crucial aspect in having a successful estate or online sale. Most liquidators, salesmen, auctioneers, etc. are not true appraisers and their ignorance can cost you thousands if not millions of dollars in lost revenue. Our President CEO, Jonathan Carofino, M.A. has been appraising for over 32+ years. He has a firm grasp of connoisseurship, appraisal and salesmanship. His extensive education and certification can be seen by scrolling down on the About Us page. Remember, we always come to you as we do not have a public facility.
Most people do not know how to setup a physical / online estate liquidation sale properly let alone advertise for one correctly. At your estate location, we use strong break down tables and strategically set the items for sale up properly. For most houses, hundreds of high definition photos are taken and posted on some of the most premier sites on the web that advertise auctions and estate sales. This is done in order to get the highest traffic possible to the sale. We pay these websites to not only advertise our sales but to send thousands of emails out to subscribers. We also make extremely large, brightly colored, professional estate sale signs that are placed on the roads with the highest traffic. What is critical is getting the correct numbers and quality of people to come to that sale. We aim for buyers, not Looky-loos. If done correctly, a successful, profitable sale will occur. One only gets one shot at a good, inside house estate sale and we do it right the first time, every time.
Items that are valuable, but not appropriate for an inside house estate sale are sold online with Ebay or Etsy or to private clients of East Coast Estate Liquidators, LLC. Individual antique items or collections of similar items that are appraised over $10,000 USD (United States Dollar) may be deemed appropriate to be sold in partnership with larger auction houses that we have had past dealings with, such as Christies Auction House or Sotheby's Auction House in NYC. It is better to have us represent your interests in these matters as we know how these auction houses work and we can negotiate a much lower percentage, depending on the items importance. For most people, half the problem involves identifying the item as valuable in the first place. One item that was identified as "silver plated junk" by a competing appraiser was later identified by our CEO as: "A Fine Silver Sugar Bowl & Cover with the Mark of Jacob Hurd, Boston, Circa 1740." For this one piece, $27,500 would have been lost if we had not been hired to clean up the mess the other appraiser had left. We negotiated a 1% commission with Christies. East Coast Estate Liquidators has to share the credit with Sotheby's in that our CEO received a Certificate of Completion by finishing the Sotheby's American Arts Course in 1998. That is where he first learned all about Jacob Hurd and other important silversmiths.
